Update 17 March 2011: I have added a chip-in link to the left hand side of my blog – just click on that to donate to the coalition I have mentioned below.
I’m sure no-one has missed the news of the devastation in Japan. My thoughts are very much with all those people and animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami.
An amazing charity called Shelterbox, which has its headquarters in the UK, already has a team on the ground in Japan. My husband is planning a fundraiser to help this charity. There are other wonderful organisations and teams out there assisting too.
In addition to those helping all the people, there are a number of organisations helping animals. I saw on Twitter earlier that the Animal Refuge Kansai, Japan is appealing for help for the animals made homeless by the earthquake and tsunami. It is asking for help in the form of both donations (there’s a PayPal link on the page for ease) and volunteers.
World Vets has also made an appeal for help. This organisation is preparing a first-responder team for deployment to Japan to provide assessment and initial aid. Again, you can donate via the organisation’s website.
These are the two groups I’ve been made aware of today. If I hear of any more I will update.
UPDATE: have just been made aware of this Chip-In for Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, a coalition of three groups: HEART-Tokushima, Animal Garden Niigata and Japan Cat Network. You can follow the coalition’s work and updates on rescue efforts in Japan, via the facebook group here.
I am just posting the links which I have seen and checked out for myself. Please check out any links for yourself too, prior to donating your money.
