As mentioned in my last post, Dogstar Foundation is based in Sri Lanka and was founded by a wonderful couple from the UK, who now live in Sri Lanka, dedicating their lives to helping these animals. A little UK money goes a lot further in Sri Lanka, so if you can spare from £1 upwards, please support them:-)

Unlike in the UK currently, in Sri Lanka, under the 24/7 curfew, people can’t go out at all, unless they have police permission. All their shops are closed and food delivery is to the house/road. There are no allowances to leave home and exercise.

Usually, the local street dogs and cats are fed by the community, tourists, hotels, shops, stallholders or the fishermen at the fish market, but now, due to curfew, none of those food sources exist.

With police permission, 10 Dogstar staff and volunteers are now feeding approximately 300-325 animals daily in the Negombo area, and working to increase the number they can reach, while ensuring they adhere strictly to all police, government and health ministry restrictions on movement and social distancing. Each team member works alone, unless they are working with a member from their own household.

(*No puppy malfunction actually occurred during the creation of these photographs, which were taken by – and are copyright to – Dogstar Foundation,  and are used here with permission.)
