June 2013: I am SO pleased to be able to finally update this post with the wonderful news that Mikey has been adopted:-)It is fantastic that he has found his forever home – I hope you have many happy years with your new family, you beautiful boy:-)

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Mikey, a three year old, male, Bull Terrier cross. I’m sure you will agree that he is a very handsome boy indeed – and smiley too! Please scroll down for lots more photos of this gorgeous boy, along with a little video clip.  If you use facebook or twitter, please share this post using the options at the end:)

Mikey is being rehomed by Bath Cats & Dogs Home and looking for an amazing forever home. He has such soulful eyes, I really think he is a gorgeous boy …

… and after deciding to name him Magical Mikey for this blog, I noticed while editing his photographs, that a piece of grass had made a Harry Potter like pattern on his tongue!

Smiley boy!

Mikey is generally a happy, nice natured dog who loves a fuss and can be affectionate when not distracted by the exciting things going on around him. He has built up a lovely relationship with carers and regular walkers, one of whom very kindly assisted me during our photoshoot – thanks Lenny!

Having belly rubs from one of his biggest fans!

Mikey is still a young and active boy and needs a loving home which will provide for his needs.

Weeeeeee! Lovely smiley face!

Mikey has been waiting for the right home for several years now.  He arrived at the rescue as a cruelty case after being extremely badly treated by his previous owner:(He was later signed over to the rescue and is seeking experienced owners who can provide the loving home he should always have had.

The rescue says once Mikey is off site and away from the busy kennel environment, which is full of distractions, he is obedient and knows his basic commands. He will sit and give a paw and would like to find a home where his new owner can expand on his training, which will help focus him and keep him mentally stimulated.

I’m sure Mikey would really LOVE the chance of a family and home all of his very own, where he could bond with his new owner(s) and feel safe and secure. He doesn’t like being in kennels and is stressed:(This is why he is homed in the kennels away from the public path and most dogs. If you would like to see Mikey please speak to reception.

Adoring gaze:)

Mikey is looking for a home where there are no children. He is good with some other dogs on site, but could only be rehomed with a playful female dog, following successful introductions at the rescue. He is looking for a home without cats and smaller animals.

Frogs legs and daisies!

Are you the amazing and experienced person/people who can commit to giving this wonderful boy all that he needs?

GOOD NEWS!

Tonight, I am enjoying a glass of Rose Lemonade (run out of the more potent stuff!) to celebrate the latest blood test results for my beautiful girl, our youngest rescue dog. She has been through various tests since earlier this year, when a routine blood test revealed elevated liver enzyme levels.

The latest results, which came back today, show improvement in the results and our vet is happy for us just to re-test in four months. We have been working on referral with our wonderful Holistic Vet and have been giving her various supplements and herbs and she has regular Reiki. We will continue as we have been – and hopefully in four months the results will be better still:)

I thought this good news warranted a quick photo session and being the beautiful muse that she is, she was happy to oblige.

Especially when I made it worth her while with some tuna cake and free-range chicken!:)

Nom!

Very grateful to our fab conventional and holistic vets and to everyone who has been sending healing and good thoughts to our beautiful girl. Thank you.

Jasper, pet photography, pet photographer, dog photography, oldies club, oldie

Despite all his health concerns, our dear oldie, Jasper, still manages a smiley face for the camera:)Isn’t he adorable?

Please keep him in your thoughts though. On top of his heart problems and liver concerns, a tumour was discovered during a recent vet check-up. We have discussed options with several vets and due to Jasper’s state of health, we have decided not to put him through a GA or anything invasive.

We are focusing on ensuring he has the best quality of life, for as long as possible. For Jasper this means yummy food, nice walks, a snuggly bed, and lots of love and company, alongside various conventional meds, regular Reiki and a number of supplements and holistic remedies.

There have been lots of tears – and there will be many more – but Jasper is such a wonderful, determined and brave soul, that we owe it to him to keep a positive outlook and help him make the most of however long he has left. Which we hope will be a while yet.

I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to our vets and everyone who has offered a kind word and sent a good thought Jasper’s way and those who are sending him healing, including several friends and the lovely volunteers at the Distant Healing Network, who have been there for us on several occasions. Thank you all.

The Day My Heart Broke

Darling Cassie, my brindle rock. A year ago today my heart broke into a zillion pieces when you had to leave for the Bridge. Letting you go was the hardest thing we have ever had to do. I thank the Universe for giving me the strength that day to do what was right for you, while my world fell apart.

There has not been a day in the past year where I haven’t shed at least a few tears – often many more – for you.

We have so many happy memories though. I have spent hours gazing at photographs of you. I am so glad that we have those to treasure, always.

I wanted to use some of my heartache to help other dogs, so I go to the rescue we adopted you from and photograph some of the harder-to-rehome dogs up there, in the hope someone special will fall in love with them, just as we did you, all those years ago.

I had one of my favourite photos of you (the one in my header) printed onto a canvas this week. This beautiful image hangs over the sofa you loved so very much, alongside the print of the little Sis who so adored you. I knew this day would be tough and I wanted something positive to focus on and help me remember the happy, healthy times.

Cassie, we will always remember your Woo-woo-woo, with tears and happiness. You were one in a billion. Thank you for being you. Thank you for being our beautiful girl. Our lives changed for ever the day we met you and the day we had to say goodbye. Thank you for the special sign today. Love you always ♥

My Black Dog ~ Pet Photography UK

Reading about the launch of SANE’s Black Dog Campaign earlier, I am reminded once again of how blessed I am to have such a wonderful Black Dog (well, two actually) in my life and heart.

My Black Dog is my shadow. We are connected by an invisible golden cord, which neither of us likes to be stretched too far. My Black Dog brings such joy, hope and love into my life and I feel so grateful. Every day. Especially when things are otherwise difficult.

My Black Dog ~ Pet Photography ~ Pet Photographer

My Black Dog is my best friend. Always ready to do what I’m doing, go where I’m going or stay where I’m staying. Packed with energy and enthusiasm for life, my Black Dog is always there, doing the right thing – being her.

Thank you, my little Black Dog. When I am full of worry and self-doubt and feel as though I am fighting a losing battle with the world around me, you (and your siblings) bring positivity into my life. One wag of the tail, one kiss, one opportunity for a belly rub (yours, not mine), can turn a moment around.
