Little Jack ~ has now found a new home!

UPDATE: 4 April 2011 – wonderful news, little Jack has found a home!:)

I had another tough task to face this week as I photographed little Jack, a 12 week old Staffie puppy who is at Bath Cats & Dogs Home and looking for a forever home. He’s very sweet and great fun – and exhausting!

Jack is one of the puppies featured on this page of the rescue’s website, along with a couple of the puppies I wrote a blog for a few weeks back.

*Please note that anyone interested in adopting one of the gorgeous Staffie puppies must follow the rescue’s puppy adoption procedure, which is outlined here.*

In order to adopt a puppy from the rescue, you will first need to complete the questionnaire and have your home visit. Then if that is successful, you’ll be invited to the rescue to meet the puppy:)

The rescue will only rehome a puppy when there is someone home during the day for them. Any new puppy adopter MUST sign up for puppy training classes before adopting their puppy. Adopters will also need to commit to neutering their puppy at an appropriate age.

Completely adorable – and attentive!

Jack arrived in rescue with a non-contagious skin condition – he is still under veterinary care but it is clearing up. However we think he is so adorable that someone special will fall for him just as he is. It’s hard to resist such a cutie, don’t you think?

Although Jack has not had the best start to life, he is very much a typical puppy – and they all come with a little mischievous glint in their eye …

Jack is a confident, friendly and very playful little chap and we had lots of fun as he ran around, fetched the tuggy toy, tried to chew everything on my person, including my fingers, oh and ran around some more!:)

Jack is a popular little boy with staff and volunteers at the rescue. Although he is in a kennel environment situation currently, the rescue is working hard to socialise him – which is something a new owner will need to keep up. His carer says if he is to be rehomed with another dog, they will need to be bigger one, who is able to cope with a puppy, as he can be a bossy little thing.

Mmm, that treat was nommy!

If you are seriously interested in adopting Jack and feel you can offer a loving and appropriate home for a puppy, you will need to contact Bath Cats & Dogs Home directly on 01225 787 321, or complete the Home’s online rehoming form, which can be found here. Please let them know that you saw Grant at Poochie Freak. Good luck Jack!

*Adopted* Upton ~

Update January 2014 – I am so thrilled to be able to update various posts about the lovely Upton, with the wonderful news that he found a forever home at the end of last year. Fantastic!

The very sweet and handsome Upton (AKA Flumpy) is still waiting at Bath Cats & Dogs Home for the chance of a forever home. I wrote a full blog for him back in November, which you can read here and you can see his page on the rescue’s website here. He is looking for a special home where he is the only dog, where there are no cats and where any children are aged 14+.

Upton is now nine years old and has been waiting for around seven years for his forever home:(I am a firm believer that there is a suitable home out there for pretty much every dog in rescue and I really hope Upton finds his very soon. I am not in the position to adopt him, but he has rather got to me and along with his lovely carer and his regular walkers and many others, would so love to see him find his forever home soon.

I don’t walk him regularly because I try to devote my time at the rescue to photographing new dogs on each visit, to try to help increase their chance of finding a home, but I do now have an informal agreement with him, whereby I always go and say hello and give him a treat. I’m sure he gives me a look until I have done this:lol:

If you are seriously interested in adopting Upton AND after reading my previous blog and his rescue page feel you can offer him a loving and suitable home, please contact Bath Cats & Dogs Home on 01225 787 321, or complete the Home’s online rehoming form, which can be found here. Please let them know that you saw Upton at Poochie Freak. Fingers and paws crossed tightly here for you Upton, you lovely boy.

If Upton is not suitable for you, but you are looking to adopt a dog in rescue, please look at the rescue links at the bottom of my blog and please check out the other dogs I’ve photographed at Bath Cats and Dogs Home (if they have already found a home, there will be an update in the post to say so).

Paws for Japan ~ World Vets – Greetings Card Auction

I blogged a few days ago about various animal welfare groups which are trying to help with relief for animals who have been caught up in the dreadful devastation facing Japan. In addition to donations made to those wonderful organisations helping people, I know the animal welfare groups are very grateful for all financial help given.

Paws for Japan

Today I have chosen to participate in Paws for Japan in support of World Vets which is mobilising a team to go to Japan and provide aid to established groups which are already present in the country. If you are able to donate anything to World Vets, please click on the above link and follow the instructions.

Update: the World Vets chip-in seems to be up and running again now so you can use that to donate, as below, or go via the above link to the website.

Greeting Cards Auction

I have also decided to auction a set of five of my photographic A5 greetings cards to hopefully help raise a little money for this amazing organisation. Please click on the gallery below to view the cards included – there is one card each of the five designs featured; each with an envelope. These cards can be used for whichever occasion you choose as they are left blank for you to add your own message.

To bid on the cards, please enter your bid as a comment below this post. Please ensure you enter a valid email address (which only I will be able to see). You can bid as many times as you wish, provided your bid is always higher than the previous bidder’s:)My blog is set so that I have to approve a person’s first comment (due to the high volume of spam sent my way) so your comment may not show immediately, but I’ll approve it as soon as I can (and see if there’s any work around).

I’m happy to accept bids from outside of the UK, but please place bids in GBP£ – I use http://www.xe.com to convert currencies.  The winning bidder will need to be willing and able to donate their winning bid amount via an online donation, direct to World Vets, and provide me with proof of your donation, by email, to receive the cards.

Bidding is now open and will close on Thursday 24 March 2011, with the cards to be posted out once I have received proof of your donation to World Vets. These cards usually retail for £2.50 each and there are five of them, so please bid generously for this fantastic cause.

Thank you:)

Our thoughts are very much with everyone in Japan who is affected by the current situation and we are also working as a family to fundraise for a wonderful charity which is already out there and helping the people of Japan.

Japan ~ donating to help animals

Update 17 March 2011: I have added a chip-in link to the left hand side of my blog – just click on that to donate to the coalition I have mentioned below.

I’m sure no-one has missed the news of the devastation in Japan. My thoughts are very much with all those people and animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

An amazing charity called Shelterbox, which has its headquarters in the UK, already has a team on the ground in Japan. My husband is planning a fundraiser to help this charity. There are other wonderful organisations and teams out there assisting too.

In addition to those helping all the people, there are a number of organisations helping animals. I saw on Twitter earlier that the Animal Refuge Kansai, Japan is appealing for help for the animals made homeless by the earthquake and tsunami. It is asking for help in the form of both donations (there’s a PayPal link on the page for ease) and volunteers.

World Vets has also made an appeal for help. This organisation is preparing a first-responder team for deployment to Japan to provide assessment and initial aid. Again, you can donate via the organisation’s website.

These are the two groups I’ve been made aware of today. If I hear of any more I will update.

UPDATE: have just been made aware of this Chip-In for Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support, a coalition of three groups: HEART-Tokushima, Animal Garden Niigata and Japan Cat Network. You can follow the coalition’s work and updates on rescue efforts in Japan, via the facebook group here.

I am just posting the links which I have seen and checked out for myself. Please check out any links for yourself too, prior to donating your money.

Adopted! ~ Super Scrummy, Smiley Saxon Seeks Special Someone(s)

30 April 2011 ~ absolutely thrilled to tell you that this wonderful boy has been adopted. On the very same day that his buddy Sonny found a home too, how fabulous is that? So pleased for them both and really glad I had the pleasure of meeting them both:-)

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of meeting and photographing Saxon, a totally gorgeous male German Shepherd Dog (GSD) cross, who is being rehomed by Bath Cats & Dogs Home. He really is a completely lovely dog and I’m amazed that he hasn’t been adopted already.

Saxon is seven years old, friendly and easy going and as you can see, beautiful! His carer says he he loves cuddles and fuss and although he can sometimes be aloof with new people at first, he is eternally loyal once bonded.

Although I had admired him from afar for a while now, this was my first introduction to Saxon and I completely fell under his spell.

When we first got into the paddock he had a good sniff around (who can blame him, all those exciting other doggie smells to be found!), but became much more responsive, as you can see from the photos :)  He really will make the most fabulous friend for a special someone(s). I think he would suit an active family who are seeking a fabulous new best friend to enjoy walks and have fun with.

What a fine schnozzle!

Saxon is good with most other dogs, so could certainly live with another dog(s) following successful introductions. He is suitable for families with children aged 10+, or 8+ if the children are dog-savvy and used to GSD-sized dogs. It’s not known how Saxon is with cats, so he is currently looking for a cat-free home.

This smiley boy deserves an amazing forever home!

Saxon’s carer says he is strong on the lead, but is being trained to a Halti (head collar) which is helping a great deal. He can sometimes lunge at a passing dog, but is fine off lead around other dogs. He will need an owner who is strong enough to be able to control him on walks.

Saxon loves being around people and can be slightly destructive if left for a long time, so he is looking for someone who is around much of the time, to ensure he is not left for long periods. With a boy this gorgeous, you wouldn’t want to be apart for long anyway!

Look into my eyes!

Saxon has formed a loving bond with his carer and likes to put his paws on the shoulders of his friends, to get cuddles:)He is looking forward to finding a wonderful new person/family to give him the love and lifestyle he very much deserves.

Saxon’s carer adores him (as do I!)

(Please click on the thumbnails above to view more photos of this lovely boy!)

Here’s a little video clip of Saxon in action and looking completely gorgeous:)

If you are seriously interested in offering Saxon the wonderful home he is looking for, you will need to contact Bath Cats & Dogs Home on

01225 787 321, or complete the Home’s online rehoming form, which can be found here.

Please let them know that you saw Saxon at Poochie Freak. I’m completely in love with him, as you may have guessed!
