Gotcha!

Today we are celebrating a Gotcha Day! It’s eleven years since we brought home the whirlwind that was – and really still is! – Max, AKA Mr Moo.

I love him more than I can put into words. He’s handsome, funny, very intelligent, snuggly (ignore all that stuff about males not being affectionate!), cheeky and most definitely young at heart. He may be approaching 12 but he’s still 11 months old as far as he’s concerned.

Mr Moo, life has not been the same since you joined our family – we love you baby!

Please join me in wishing Max a Happy Gotcha Day!:)

LOVE his nose:-)

Such a handsome boy

Waiting patiently for a treat!

Incoming tuna cake!!

Got it Mum! (I can just spot the treat at the back of his throat!)

Max says I may be close to my 12th birthday but I’m still a puppy at heart!

Life’s a Beach

We love our rescue dogs to have adventures when they come to live with us and it’s always a wish to take them to a beach:)Jasper is a steady soul who is very happy to go to new places, so we took him and his rescue sis off to Dorset for a few hours this week.

Not sure whether he has seen a beach before but he had a lovely time and we have some wonderful memories.

A few photos …

Jasper after being surprised by a wave:lol:

Leaving his paw print on the sand …

Loving the beach:)

There’s nothing quite like watching the waves is there?

Such pretty little beach huts:)

We all had a lovely time:)

In the sunlight …

We’ve had a lot of rain recently but today saw some lovely sunshine too.

I love this photograph of Jasper. Think he was hoping for some tuna cake;-)

Nine months on …

Today is nine months since New Year’s Eve. Nine months since we brought Jasper home as an emergency foster for Oldies Club and failed at fostering as quickly as we thought we probably would:lol:

We have loved sharing our lives with Jasper since we adopted him. He is such a sweet boy and he truly seems at home here. It’s hard to believe that our gorgeous, happy boy wouldn’t have been here at all if it wasn’t for a compassionate vet who was reluctant to put him down – and Oldies Club for agreeing to take him.

According to Jasper, it’s very important to celebrate nine month gotcha days with a good steak, so Daddy bought and cooked a lovely (if you’re not vegetarian like me!) one for the dogs this evening. It’s been Jasper-approved.

Here are a few photos from this afternoon of our delightful treasure. Happy Nine Months Jasper Bear ♥

When Jasper came to us, we were told not to let him off lead as he didn’t respond to his name. Well, we have a brilliant bond with him and he is very good at coming back when called – and whenever he is walking ahead, he turns his head regularly, as demonstrated below, to check that we’re still there. Oh and if you’re wondering what that is in the photo above his tail, it’s either a fairy or a daddy-long-legs!

It’s very hard to take a photograph of Jasper running without ears and tongue all over the place, so this sums him up well:-)He does love to run.
Finally, our handsome chap doing a bit of posing for the camera. As someone once said to me when I was dog walking at the local rescue centre: you can’t go wrong with a black and tan. They’re absolutely right.

Bully for You?

As we approach the end of National Dog Adoption Month I wanted to write about the thousands of bullbreeds who are in need of a good home RIGHT NOW in the UK.

I don’t know if any of you saw the tv programme last month about the plight of bullbreeds in this country? About how many don’t make it out of the pounds and are pts (killed) before they get the chance of a new home? It’s heartbreaking, it really is. Thousands of healthy dogs dying every year.

If you are thinking of getting a dog, please look at adopting from rescue and please think about bringing a bullbreed into your life. There are all sorts of wonderful, beautiful dogs just waiting for their forever home – Staffies, Bull Terriers, Bullmastiffs, American Bulldogs, Bulldogs and their crosses.

Check out dogsblog, check out Oldies Club. If you are in the Bath area, try Bath Cats & Dogs Home; if you’re in London, try Battersea and the Mayhew; try your local rescue centre (they ALWAYS have staffie type dogs for rehoming). Try breed rescues. There’s sadly no shortage of bullbreeds in need of a loving home. Take a look at the wonderful Buster, currently Old Dog of the Week, who is only eight years old, good with other dogs and fine to live with children. Very handsome too!:)

I post this in memory of our wonderful Cassie, the most beautiful, loving, loyal, gentle friend and Big Sis we could have wished for. She was one of the lucky ones. With eternal thanks to Bath Cats & Dogs Home for enabling her to come into our lives.

And in memory of dear Cassie Piggie and Peggy, two beautiful bullbreed girls who found wonderful new homes through Oldies Club and who I had the pleasure of photographing.

Cassie Piggie, the sweetest girl, much missed by her lovely family.

and Peggy, who arrived in Oldies Club care in a terrible state and found a fabulous forever home after being nursed back to health.

Three families blessed by these wonderful girls.
