Healthy, Happy Oldies

A new online rescource, Healthy, Happy Oldies, has been launched, featuring various articles to promote health and happiness in older dogs.

Poochie Freak’s very own Jasper explains how active older dogs can be.

Jasper is certainly an older dog, he must be approaching at least 13 years of age from the information we were given, but this most definitely doesn’t stop him enjoying life. He is a very happy chap and loves his walks.

We feel so blessed to have been able to welcome him into our life just eight months ago. He really is a sweet, loving and very special boy.

It’s National Dog Adoption Month – the perfect time to think about adopting an older dog.

Poochie Freak auctions cards for Rescue Remedies

I am donating some of my photographic greetings cards to a UK dog rescue called Rescue Remedies to help raise some funds during their online auction, which started on Wednesday 15 September.

Please click on the gallery  below to see the set of cards I have put up for auction. The listing includes seven cards – one each of the designs shown.

The auction listing can be found HERE on the Rescue Remedies’ forum, along with the other items being auctioned. If you want to bid you will need to join the forum. It’s very quick and easy to sign up (and free!).

The cards are usually sold for £2.50 each so I hope people bid generously:)I am covering the cost of P&P for a winning bid within the UK. The cards are large (A5 in size) and feature a high quality glossy photograph. The cards come with a white envelope and the inside message part of the card is left blank.

Mr May 2011

Our very own Jasper, adopted from Oldies Club, is featuring as Mr May on the charity’s desk calendar for 2011, which is available now!

The calendar features a different oldie for each month, plus the winner of the Woof Factor competition on the front.

Here is the photo we chose for Jasper’s page – my copyright notice doesn’t appear on the calendar.

If you would like to brighten up your desk and help raise funds for a very worthwhile charity at the same time, the calendars can be bought online via eBay for £4.99 plus p&p. If you would rather pay by cheque, you can order by post – details here.

National Dog Adoption Month

Welcome to my new blog – I hope you like it! Do leave a comment and let me know what you think. (Especially if you like it! ;)) I have moved my posts from my previous blog over, so you can read my past blogs here too.

With my love of dogs and passion for dog rescue, it seemed apt to make my first post here about rescue dogs.

This month it’s National Dog Adoption Month at Dogsblog, an online resource which helps potential dog owners find suitable dogs in rescues throughout the UK. If you are thinking of getting a dog, please look at rescue.

There are so many wonderful dogs of all sorts of breeds, crosses, sizes and ages, sat in rescues across the UK (and indeed the world), right now, just waiting for someone wonderful like you to give them a forever home and the chance of a new life.

I have included a little gallery below of some wonderful dogs who have been adopted from rescue. Just click on the image and you can view the photos as a slideshow. These beautiful dogs all found loving homes, but there are plenty more like them waiting in rescues around the world, right now.

If you are thinking seriously about getting a dog, please also look at my Rescue page and the links at the bottom of the blog, for various rescues.

Anyone new to my blog may not yet have heard of Oldies Club, a registered charity in the UK which rescues and rehomes older dogs. The charity takes in dogs aged 7+, caring for them in foster homes until they are rehomed, and also uses its website to promote older dogs in other rescues around the UK. If it wasn’t for Oldies Club and a compassionate vet, our wonderful Jasper would not have been with us since New Year.

If you are in the Bath area, there are many beautiful dogs, cats and smaller animals at Bath Cats & Dogs Home waiting to be adopted.

If you are not looking for another dog but would like to help rescue in another way, donations are always obviously well received, but practical help, such as offers to foster, homecheck, transport and/or help on stalls at events, is always appreciated too.

Lucky White Paw

There are lots of wonderful things about Jasper, but one of the things that caused me to fall in love with him is his beautiful white paw. It’s so sweet and kissable (I know I’m not the only one that loves the smell of doggie paws).

I consider it his lucky paw as it snuck into my heart the day he arrived as an emergency foster – and as many of you already know he never left:)
