Jasper Bear’s New Year’s Eve story is some years old now, but a very precious and personal one for me. It was just before New Year that year when an old dog was taken to a vets to be put to sleep. He wasn’t a sick dog whose time had come. He was a dog separated, we were told, from his doggie companion and his ill human, and left at the vets by relatives. His story may have ended there, but it turned out that the universe had other plans for Jasper. The vets were due to close for New Year but, instead of sending Jasper to Rainbow Bridge, they contacted Oldies Club the day before New Year’s Eve to ask if we could help.
